General Questions

How long will it take to repair my phone or tablet?

Most of the listed cell phones take 20-45 minutes to repair; some complex repairs can take up to 1.5 hours. However, waiting time can vary depending on how busy we are at the moment.
Cell phone and tablet board level repairs as well as water damage recovery might take up to 5 days.
iPad repair services are done withing 24 hours. Repairs that require special order are subject to parts availability and may take up to 2 weeks for the parts to be received from our suppliers.

Will I lose any data from my cell phone?

We try to keep all information intact, unless it is necessary to remove it as a part of the repair. These repairs usually include software issues. If your data is particularly important it’s better to back up your device before the repair.

I have multiple issues with my smartphone, can I get a deal on multiple repairs?

Yes you can, give us a call and describe your problem and we will see what we could do for you.

Do I have to give you my password for the phone repair?

It is recommended. We need the pass code in order to test your phone before and after the repair. If you do not wish to provide your pass code, certain phone functions won’t be tested such us camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth and others, therefore can’t be verified by us to work.

Mail in Repair Questions

Can I mail in any device for repair?

You can mail-in anything listed on our site. If you have any questions or your device is not listed please call and our technicians will assist you.

What should I include when I am shipping my device to you?

We only need your device, do not include accessories, the original packaging as this will only increase shipping cost. We ask you to include a pre-paid return envelope. Any other information we need will be provided from the mail-in form.

Do I have to include my passcode with my phone?

It is recommended. We need the passcode in order to test your phone after the repair. If you do not wish to provide your passcode, certain phone functions won’t be tested such us camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and therefore can’t be verified by us to work.

Do you need my SIM card?

It’s not needed to include your SIM card. But in case your phone is network locked we might not be able to fully test your device.

Liquid Damage Service

What should I do if my device falls in water or another liquid?

Do not turn on your device. Do not try to charge it. It’s best if you bring it the next day or even the same day, as we will have a better chance of repairing it. Of course if you can’t make it to one of our locations, try to dry it out, then bring or mail your device to one of our locations.

My device was water damaged and now everything seems to work fine except for one function, do I still need the full water damage service?

It’s hard to say how liquid damage will affect your device. We offer free diagnostics services and recommend bringing in your device so that our technicians can take a look at it for a better advice.

How long do water damage repairs take to complete?

Water damage repairs generally take between 24 and 72 hours to complete depending on the level of damage. This estimate can vary, however, depending on the extent of the damage to the logic board and other components.

Glass & LCD Replacement Service

After dropping my phone it has become unresponsive to touch, does the glass repair fix this issue?

In most cases any kind of screen damage is fixed by LCD replacement. Don’t worry, we will make sure that your device turns on, works fine with a new LCD. We will also test all functions before fully installing a new part. If we find any collateral damage we will let you know beforehand.

What is the difference between Glass repair and LCD repair?

The LCD Assembly consists of:

  • Glass
  • LCD module
  • Touchscreen module

All three are bound together for all cell phone models listed. So whether your device has a shattered Glass only or non-responsive Touchscreen – we have to replace all three layers anyway.

However, if your device has broken Glass only, and the LCD and Touchscreen are functioning properly, we are able to recycle the LCD Assembly for a refund. In this case Geek Workshop will offer that rebate (that we will get for recycling) in a form of less expensive price for LCD replacement.

Will the new screen be the same as my old screen?

We use OEM screens only for all of the android cell phones we repair. So yes, in this case your new screen will be of exactly the same quality as your old screen.

Apple iPhone OEM screens are not available on the market, so we are forced to use an alternative instead of the original Apple screens. Geek Workshop works only with the manufactures that provide the highest quality LCDs in North America. We are proudly using Premium Quality LCDs only.

Cell Phone Software Repairs

How do I know if my phone's software is not working as it should?

The question is definitely not the easiest one as usually it is hard to say whether the problems are caused by hardware or software. However, the most common reasons for smartphone software repair are:

  • Your device is glitchy, freezing or constantly rebooting.
  • Your device applications keep crashing or not opening.
  • Your device is not receiving network signal, wi-fi or bluetooth.

Is there any warranty for software repairs?

At Geek Workshop we offer a limited 30-day software warranty for all Android smartphones. For more info please refer to our warranty and policies page.

How long will it take to perform a software repair?

Usually it takes us up to 2 business days to perform most complicated (e.g. IMEI restore) repairs.

Android Custom Mods/Firmware

Do I need any custom ROM's or Mods installed on my cell phone?

It’s absolutely a matter of choices and preferences. Stock Android ROM’s are usually solid stable and do not require any customization in order to function properly.
However, a properly installed custom ROM can benefit you with extended battery life, smoother user experience and many other great features.

Do you offer any warranty for custom firmware?

Geek Workshop is not offering any warranty for custom firmware installation. All the risks are taken by the customer.

How long will it take to install a custom ROM on my cell phone?

It takes no longer than 1 business day to install and test the custom software on your device.
